We are excited to announce that the Ilorin Global Shapers Hub has been honored with the prestigious Innovation Prize at the Global Shapers Annual Summit 2024 in Geneva! This award is a major achievement for our hub and a proud moment for the entire community. The Ilorin Hub’s project, Safe Space for Her (SSFH), has been recognized for its innovative approach to empowering young girls which will now be scaled up because of this recognition.
Out of several competitve applications, only 15 hubs were selected to receive this highly competitive award, making it a remarkable feat for us. The Innovation Prize highlights our hub’s dedication to creativity, impact-driven work, and innovative solutions for local challenges.
Representing the Ilorin Hub, Vice Curator Oluwayemisi Fagboro was deeply honored to receive the award at the summit. In her words: “This award is a testament to the hard work, collaboration, and unwavering commitment of our entire team. We are immensely proud of what we have achieved, and we are excited about what lies ahead for the SSFH project.”
The Safe Space for Her project is centered around empowering young girls by providing them with the knowledge, tools, and support they need to thrive. This initiative focuses on combating period poverty by establishing Pad Banks and Safe Space Clubs in schools. Through these safe spaces, girls are not only given access to essential sanitary products but also a nurturing environment that promotes education, personal growth, and self-confidence. Our goal is to ensure that every girl can reach her full potential, free from limitations imposed by societal or economic barriers.
This incredible achievement was made possible by the support and sponsorship from the Global Shapers Community, Global Alliance for Youth, and Accenture. Their belief in our vision has been crucial in bringing this project to life.
As we celebrate this milestone, we are more committed than ever to creating a brighter, more equitable future for young girls in our community. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to expand the Safe Space for Her project and make an even greater impact.
